Adnan Siddiqui Slams Kriti Sanon’s Akhiyaan De Kol From Do Patti For ‘Tearing Apart’ Reshma’s Classic
Pakistani star Adnan Siddiqui has taken to social media to criticize Bollywood star Kriti Sanon’s rendition of the popular song Akhiyaan De Kol. In a strongly worded post, Siddiqui expressed his displeasure over what he described as a disrespectful take on a beloved classic, calling out the lack of sensitivity in reimagining such iconic tracks. His comments have since ignited a debate on social media, with fans and critics discussing the cultural implications of remakes and cross-border artistic collaborations.
Adnan Siddiqui termed the song as “a rude rip-off of a legend’s classic song”. He wrote in his post on X that, Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means ripping off a legend’s classic. Please show some respect to Reshmaji and her legacy. His music deserves to be treated with the dignity it commands, not to be sung sloppily.
Other users also expressed their support for the statement, with one writing, “Thank you for saying that, what an obscene way to honor the legend of Reshmaji.”
Singer Reshma sang many popular songs, including ‘Dum Dum Mast Qalandar’, ‘Hai O Raba Nahi Laga Dil Meera’, and ‘Lumbi Jadai’. He added a soulful touch to the original compositions of composer Khan Mohammad and lyricist Sahrai Gurdas Puri.
The song was first covered by Raj Kapoor in the 1973 Hindi cinema romantic film Bobby, sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Later, it was reused by several musicians, including Pakistani songwriter Quratul Ain Baloch.
The song has been recreated by music composer Tanishk Bagchi for Kriti Sanon’s Du Patti, sung by Shilpa Rao and written by Kausar Munir.
Kriti Sanon’s double-role film ‘Do Patti’ will be released on Netflix on October 25. The film also stars Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Brijinder Kala. This is Kriti Sanon’s debut film production.
